Mission Statement: The purpose of this column is to put together a regular collection of the moments from wrestling that we love that continue to remind us wrestling just why in fact we do like wrestling. After each wrestling show that you watch, whether it be Raw, Impact, Smackdown, NXT, ROH, or anything else, I simply request that you send in whatever highlights you have. What made you smile? What made you forget that you’re an internet know it all and cheer audibly from your couch? It can be anything from something as simple as Santino mispronouncing someone’s name to a title changing hands. Anything. Just tell me what you liked and why you liked it. Hopefully, reading this others may realize they enjoyed your highlight as much as you enjoyed theirs and together we can all continue to enjoy wrestling as much as ever.

Our number of submissions has greatly increased since last week which I love. Unfortunately it’s very lopsided towards RAW and light in the Impact and Smackdown feedback. The good news out of that is that since we had zero submissions from Impact and Smackdown the week before it’s an improving work in progress.

RAW 2/04/2013

Max Murder: Mark Henry’s return was phenominal. A well done destruction return potentially saying the hall of fame could be making a return. He destroyed guys that you would totally believe he could bully around and destroy. His return was out of nowhere and many probably had forgotten about Henry. Great new t-shirt as well.

Brock Lesnar’s segment with the miz was great. I found myself scared for the miz, especially after the first clothesline. When lesnar started throwing furniture at the miz i got so scared and when lesnar started picking up the couches, he moved right behind daniel bryan in my current top 5.

Henry made a lot of people’s top moments and I can’t say enough about this guy. I think we’ve all been robbed of him for the last year or so but it seems a lot more people are on the Henry bandwagon this time around so good for him. As for Brock, I make it no secret how awesome I think he is but he did scare me during this segment. He reminds me of a kid that used to wrestle with us in the living room but would go full speed and when we told him to chill out and that it was “fake” he explained, “not when Stone Cold does it.” Brock might be that guy that has trouble seeing the line of when he needs to tone it back a little/

Jamie Rubert: The Punk promo and his match with Jericho.

I found it surprising that reportedly WWE was expecting Orton to win the fan vote and hadn’t planned for Jericho. I hope the turnout in favor of Jericho added with their phenomenal match helps put some good things in motion for him before he just gets mixed in with the mid card shuffle.

Curls4dagirls: My favorite raw moment was the return of mark Henry. He destroyed Bryan mysterious and sin cara. The last time I saw so many little people obliterated like that, 22 children were killed. Was it sandy cook or sumthin’? #teamchickenfish

We like wrestling. We love tasteless jokes. Combine those things with Mark Henry and you got a winner!

Tracy Sasser: I was hoping for an Orton-Punk feud wherein I would be forced to choose sides, throw up my hands in despair, and bump Danny up to the number 1 spot in my top 5. But a Jericho feud works.

Debo brought Mark Henry to RAW tonight! Danny’s gonna be so happy!!!

DUDE!!!! Fucking LESNAR is insane!!! Check out the sofa tossing!!! *mark*

Best Shield beat down EVAH!

Where am I if not the #1 spot?? And yeah Debo and I had our Mark Henry chat already.

Kenny Wilson: The segment with Miz, Vicki, and Paul Heyman. I love seeing Paul Heyman work. He looks like a sneaky son of a bitch and he’s one of the top speakers in the WWE. I hope he sticks around for a while yet. It was nice to see Brock 2 raws in a row as well.

Seeing the Del Rio / Big Show bits through out the night was nice too. It was a good change from regular back stage bits. Reminds me of old times in the WWF.

I also loved the ending starting with Brad Maddox. I love his character. He plays it well and is not half bad on the mic. Seeing the shield get their long awaited beating was nice too. I liked the shield at first but now I find them annoying and stale. So seeing this it looks like something could get set up at the chamber.
Also seeing Mark Henry come out and destroy the burrito brothers and Daniel Bryan was nice. Starting where they left off with him. I’m just wondering why he didn’t make an appearance in the rumble!

Heyman plays that role better than anyone else could that I can think of. He just adds an extra level of drama to everything he is involved in. I thought the Shield attack was played out amazingly well and I agree that they need to start putting them in more matches before people really lose their interest. I think with the Chamber and then Wrestlemania coming up we’ll get just that. The only reason I can assume that Henry wasn’t in the rumble is that the spotlight wouldn’t have been as much on him and unless they were going to let him win, someone would have had to throw him out which immediately takes away momentum depending on how you do it.

Masked Wrestler: When I Called That Jack Swagger Will Make A Come Back And Become The New Champion He’s Back Baby

I’m still not sold on Swagger as I have trouble getting past the lisp but I like what they’re doing so far. It’s nice to see that people are getting behind him.

Kevin Matchstick: Punk vs Jericho: This match could have easily been the main event at Wrestlemania. The storyline between Punk and Jericho already existed, and whether or not one was needed to sell this match was made obvious in the first few minutes: Nope. I hope everyone in the back was watching while Jericho and Punk put on a clinic called, “Wrestling: How to have an amazing match without being a spot monkey.”

I think Jericho and Punk used a wider variety of moves in this match alone than Cena, Orton, and Ryback have used in their last 5 matches combined. Jericho might be past his prime, but he’s still got it and then some. The amount of effort put into this match was staggering to watch, and honestly when it got done, I felt like I should have been paying someone.

This is not to take away from other wrestlers who are regularly pushing the envelope (Ziggler among others), but it’s clear that this match was an obvious display of wrestling done right. Good use of near falls, use of submissions, top rope work, reversals, a large array of moves, and a few really unique things. I mean, did you see how far that Lionsault was that Jericho did? He might as well bring back the Coast-to-coast /Van Terminator. I felt like Punk sold very well and never missed a beat.

Bottom line is that this was some of the best wrestling I have watched for free on cable in a very long time.

While I don’t think matches have to be technical to be good I hope that they see it’s good when they allow two guys to go out there and just do their thing and how well the crowd will respond to it.

Debo: What I liked about RAW was seeing my man Mark Henry come back and lay waste in the ring. So happy he is back to give SD some more legit heels for ADR. I also loved seeing Brock live for the first time. Can’t wait to see what happens next week. MORE MARK HENRY HOPEFULLY! Also I liked the fact that after raw went off we got a bonus dark match between dolph and cm punk vs cena and ryback and at the end cm punk did a cart wheel to give the hot tag to dolph. Lol it was a good match and punk was pretty funny.

Debo and I already plan on buying the new Henry shirt. We’ll practically be twins!

Jeromy Taylor: My favorite Raw moment was the impression I got from Jack Swagger. When did this guy learn to act?

People seem to be loving this new incarnation of Swagger. I’m not against it so I hope I can get behind him as much as some of you are. I can at least admit I’m interested.

Matty Porter:
1.)They built up the Shield vs. Cena/Ryback/Sheamus match at Elimination Chamber really well, I loved the three of them coming down the steps like The Shield do. Looking forward to the match!

2.)Punk beat Jericho in a great match. Not only that, Punk won clean! Are they doing the ‘Best in the World’ beating the shit out of everybody build?

3.)Lesnar threw a chair at Miz and it hit him in the head, how could you not enjoy that. And when Brock hit that F5 I thought Miz was gonna hit the sofa and die.

4.)Mark Henry returned and beat the crap out of Los Concistadores, who I hate. Plus, Henry’s theme is sick, makes me want to punch people in the dick.

1.) Agreed. It made for a fun visual and I think it’s good if the two sides can get a good back and forth going over the next few weeks.

2.) A great point! I didn’t think about this when it happened but it’s been a long time since we’ve gotten a quality clean Punk victory. I would love it if this can become a regular thing. I just think it’s important to have heels that are legitimate threats and not just creative at cheating.

3.) I loved it and was afraid for Miz’s life at the same time!

4.) It took them way too long to figure out how to use this guy. It’s almost sad.

Johnny Jiggas: This week on Raw I actually marked out to see the return of Mark Henry. I have never been a big fan of Henry, it wasn’t until his push as a monster heel that I started to enjoy watching him. When he returned on Raw it was awesome the destruction he caused on Bryan, Sin Cara and Rey. That Worlds Strongest Slam on Rey looked brutal.

Also another thing enjoyed about Raw was the Jericho vs Punk match. Glad that Jericho won the Active Poll and we got ourselves a really good match.

I love all this Mark Henry love! I thought I was in the minority at the end of last year but it seems that is certainly no longer the case.

Impact 2/07/2013

Jeromy Taylor: My favorite part of TNA was the impression I got from Wes Briscoe as a heel. He is good.

He shares Batista’s coke face so it’s no surprise that he too can play a pretty good heel.

Ross Jarvis: Great X division match as always, loved the DDT from the top rope by Zema Ion.
- Is it me or does Todd sound a bit like Joe Papi?
- James Storm’s finishers are two of my favourites; Codebreaker and superkick.
- Here come my favourite tag team in all of wrestling at the moment, a better and funnier version of Kane and Daniel Bryan.
- Love Chavo and Hernandez’s theme.
- Nice spotted dick joke.
- Tazz using Kevin’s new favourite word hogwash.
- Roode and Aries always put on good matches, great ending, deserve the belts for all they’ve done for TNA.
- After that segment with Hogan and Bully Ray I really do think one of them is in Aces and Eights.
- Highlight of the Knockouts match was Miss Tessmacher’s arse, still a lot better than most Divas matches. At least they last longer than 10 seconds.
- Rockstar Spud? Did TNA get confused between England and Ireland? Would be a great name for Sheamus if he was in 3MB.
- Love the Robbie’s, they manage to be funny without sounding goofy.

A lot of people are quick to knock Impact but if you’re not watching it these next few weeks while they’re back in front of a real crowd and out of that soundstage that makes them come off like a WCW weekend show then you’re missing out. Also, as Ross has laid out here, there are plenty of small gems to find throughout Impact even if you don’t love the general overall direction of the company.

Smackdown 2/08/2013

Tracy Sasser: Tensai and Brodus headed for tag team status? Interesting…

Sure. I guess I’ll take that as a highlight. It’s not like individually they were doing anything outstanding. Plus, I think they would have some interesting matchups with other teams such as Team Hell No, Mysterio & Sin Cara, and even Prime Time Players.

Ross Jarvis:
- Love the new intro and glad they’ve used Born 2 Run as the theme rather than just in between segments, great song too.

- Bet Booker’s glad SmackDown isn’t live, because as the managing manager of ManageDown he needs to manage Big Show’s tantrums. Now can you dig that, Managaaaa.

- Cody’s moustache is growing on me.

- Solid match between Cody and Kofi, if a little short. Cross Rhodes is such a cool finisher.

- Love how much JBL shits on Josh every week. Makes up for the tragic loss of Booker T on commentary.

- So glad Mark Henry is back, even if Khali is unable to make a scared face. Is there anything he can actually do?

- Hahaha, the Hall of Pain is now open. Glad it has returned and reopened its doors. He’s my favourite monster heel by a long way, maybe he’ll replace Big Show in Danny’s top five now?

- Jack Sssssthwagger looks like he means bisthness.

- Wow Gabriel sold that clothesline well, Ziggler esque.

- Did anyone else notice the poster on the wall backstage change? It was the Royal Rumble poster and now it’s a WWE magazine cover. No? Just me then.

- The dancing segment would be awful if it wasn’t for JBL on commentary. He sounds like a Dad telling off his son. Oh, Tensai.

- Amazing move by Sin Cara, you have to praise that. That was crazy. Even JBL doesn’t have a name for it.

- Love Cesaro, he definitely has a great future. Too many short matches this week though.

- The Miz sounds genuinely scared. Still remains in my fave 5 nonetheless, even as a face.

- That camera angle on Mark Henry’s entrance makes him look like such a beast.

- Glad he beat Orton, again a very quick match. That world’s strongest slam came out of nowhere almost like…an RKO. Shame there was no Shield on SmackDown.

- On a final note: THE HALL OF PAIN IS BACK IN BUSINESS.

Again, Ross was able to point out a nice series of highlights from Smackdown that shows it’s worth your time. I thought the episode flowed well and lead to an enjoyable main event. JBL on commentary is always guaranteed to provide some great moments.

Thanks again to everyone for their submissions this week. I can only hope that reading this helps remind you why We Like Wrestling.
